CALCE Black Derby Shoes

The CALCE X1728 is a black derby in leather and nubuck with a lightweight block sole. It is the kind of shoe that does not need explaining: clean open-lace construction, a last that sits comfortably on a standard to slightly wide foot, and a finish that holds up through long working days and formal evenings alike.

Materials and construction

The upper combines full-grain leather with nubuck panels, giving the surface a considered texture that reads well under both artificial and natural light. The block sole provides a degree of durability and grip that smooth leather soles rarely match, without adding unnecessary bulk to the silhouette. Stitching throughout is tight and consistent.

When to wear

• Office and client meetings — pairs cleanly with a dark suit or charcoal separates.
• Formal occasions — civil ceremonies, graduations, black-tie dinners.
• Day-to-evening — holds its own across a full working day into a formal dinner without needing a change.
